Nylon Straps for Guitars

Playing the guitar is a great way to enjoy yourself and to either find a relaxing place or to let off steam, depending on your preferred style of playing. We all have our preferences and each has their likes and dislikes about the way to play, the type of guitar they prefer and the style and manner in which they play it.

Some like to relax and pick out a soothing classical piece on a nylon stringed classical guitar, or strum away at some old favorites on a steel strung acoustic guitar in their bedroom. Others like to play some old rock'n'roll standards on a semi acoustic electric guitar like an old Gibson 335, while others like to play the blues on an old Strat or Tele. Others still like to crank up the volume and distort the sound to get that grating rocky sound for those rock anthem types of numbers. While right at the other end of the spectrum, those rockers like to go all out and get insane distortion and volume to play heavy metal riffs at blistering speed.

How Do You Play Your Guitar

So how do you play yours? What kind of guitar do you own? Do you own more than one guitar? The author owns several guitars, from a straight acoustic jumbo for strumming on, an electro-acoustic for playing soothing classics on, a Gibson Melody Maker for playing the blues and a custom Fender Strat with a Kahler whammy bar and coil tapped humbucker for playing those heavy metal licks and runs! A pretty diverse set of styles, but that's not too strange these days.

Many guitarists like to play different styles and get a buzz out of mastering one style while working on another. Its a great hobby and when, like the author, you can combine that hobby with playing in a band and doing live gigs in front of a real audience in bars and clubs... and being paid for the privilege, then you get the best of all worlds.

The All Important Guitar Strap

When playing live, you need a dependable guitar strap to hold the instrument in place. A good, strong but lightweight strap is essential, because it needs to hold up an often heavy electric guitar for an hour or so at a time. It needs to be comfortable and spread the load across as wide an area of the shoulder as possible to avoid causing pain, which can happen with some very heavy models like the Gibson Les Paul.

Personally, I prefer a nylon guitar strap with heavy duty end eyes for attaching to the guitar. They don't slip and it doesn't accidentally release fron the pegs, a problem that comes with some cheap straps. Even if your not a gigging musician and just playing in your bedroom in front of the mirror (yeah, we all do that!) you want your strap to hold your precious instrument in place and not dump it on the floor. That can damage the paintwork or in extreme cases even damage the neck.

So be safe when you're wearing your pride and joy around your shoulders. Make sure you have a good quality guitar strap that will last a long time and ensure your instrument is safe, in place and that it's comfortable to wear!
